hAlDi DoOdH (tUrMeRiC MiLk)

I am a very passive drinker. The only stuff which I drink include Water, Milk(flavored/plain/shakes),Fresh fruit juice, Soft Drinks, and no etc.
I remember having haldi doodh a couple of time in my teens, but it had been a distant memory by now.

Why am I speaking about haldi doodh, I will have to rewind a few days back.
Last Friday it was the first summers rain at Manipal, so me and CNM Gang( Hope u remember them) decided to go to CNM in heavy rain on our bikes. It was an amazing 5 km ride from hostel to CNM. The lightening striking just above your head, Rain making it tough to ride the bike, bad roads, etc. But getting drenched in the first rainfall of the season is quite an experience. After that we go for dinner to an Air conditioning restaurant. And it had to happen, I caught cold the next day.

As with me I do not take any medication or give the doctor a visit for the first two days. Continued drinking chilled lime juice in canteen during lunch and dinner.
The cough becomes terrible by day 3, and so I push myself to give the doc a visit.
The worst thing about seeing a doctor here at Manipal(KMC) is that u have to wait for atleast half an hour for your check up, so I hate going. But then I had to.

The doc does the check up, gives me the prescription for three days, I take all the medicines and precautions, but it does not help. It only gets bad by the day. Yesterday I could not sleep the whole night because of the coughing. My throat, lungs and head are literally blasting off. Many others in the college are down as well. Few are suffering from diarrhea, fever, etc. I know its high time to give the doc another visit. Another important thing- we have the seniors farewell party tomorrow.
So I visit the Doc and guess wat, he repeats the prescription for 5 more days. He says that medicine takes time to work and by end of this dose i should be fine.
I take medicine today and honestly there is no improvement. It has only gone worse by the day.

I call up home and my Mom suggests me to have haldi doodh, many other friends at college suggest the same. An hour back I am just sitting in hostel coughing the hell out of me. I could take it no more. So I decide to make some "haldi doodh".

I take help from friends over gtalk on how to make haldi doodh. I arrange for all the necessary items and prepare the haldi doodh. But with a small mistake. This is not the kind of haldi milk i have had before. There is haldi powder swimming/floating over the milk and it had not mixed with the milk. But i somehow gulp it all down in one shot. My previous experience with haldi milk was very gross as i always end up puking. But not this time. Me and Shivaji smile at each other after the bottoms up and then laugh out loud. Man that was quite a scene.

Anyways I dunno if it helped or not, but it was fun preparing Haldi milk. I am sure my Mom and Gran will be very happy with my effort.

HALDI MILK- Recipe
------------------
Milk - 1 Glass
Haldi - 1 tea spoon
Salt - Swaad anusaar.

Method: Boil the milk to boiling temperature. take a glass or bowl. Put one spoon haldi and a little salt in it. Now pour the hot milk into the glass and stir continuously. Make sure the haldi mixes well with the milk. Drink it hot.

Nice guy..

Recently my class mate forwarded a link to an article named "Ode to the Nice Guys" . I think every man has traits of this "nice guy" in him,if not for all the people around him at least for one special person. I am posting the link of the article following this post. I am sure you guys will love it.
I have been the nice guy to many of my friends. Just waiting for them to realize this. It is not going to make any difference to me our our relationship though.

The link to the article is : An Ode To Nice Guys

I am sure you will all be able to relate to this. And if you are a guy do pass this to all your friends whom you have been nice to, and if you are a girl do thank all your nice friends for being there for you all the time.

Happy reading..

Ankit "Micheal Jordan" Gulechha

TAPMI has given me a chance to do many things for the first time in my life. I have never played sports at competitive level such as school, zone, district, etc. My association with sports is limited to Gully cricket, Carrom board with family, EA Sports on my computer and of course my SQ(Sports Quotient) which I know is very high compared to others. I do follow all the action happening in cricket, football, tennis, F1,etc.

At TAPMI to keep myself fit and in shape, I had made up my mind to play one sport on regular basis in college. I wanted to avoid the gym as it took lot of time out of the rigorous schedule here. Volleyball at 5 PM everyday after college is what I played. In due course of time we started playing basketball early mornings at MIT basketball court. This was my first attempt at playing basketball. I was very bad at it, but was happy to be sweating it out early in the mornings.

We moved to new campus in some time and that was the end of basketball as we do not have a basketball court here yet.

Come SPEED 2009( Annual Sports meet at TAPMI), I give my nomination to class captain to play basketball. Our class has some good basketball players and other prospective players who line themselves up for selection for a team of 8-10. Initially I thought my chances were bleak but I wanted to contribute somewhere for the class in SPEED. So we start practicing everyday in the evening for a couple of hours. In due course only 8-10 players turned up regularly for the practice and We all make it to the team( as if the captain had any choice). As far as I was concerned I thought I was called personally for the practice so that there were enough players at practice to help the good players practice better. But I did not mind this a bit because I loved sweating it out there and secondly I was playing some sports. My captain Vignesh and good friend Tuhin, and others did help me improve my game. I was given a specific role- collecting rebound and converting them during offence, and taking on the man near ring during defense.

On 27th feb at midnight we have a team strategy discussion in hostel TV room and my captain says that there is a chance I might play in game tomorrow as substitute. Though I very much felt this would not happen.

On 28th feb, morning 6.30 the entire team reaches the venue. The court is half surrounded by supporters of both the teams. I do not figure in the starting line up as decided in team meeting. My teams plays great basket ball and we move into third quater with a lead of 8 points. I was hoping that I might get a chance to play in fourth quater, but the team did not want to risk this and thus I stand at side dissapointed not to have played a part in the game. But then, with 10 points lead and 3 minutes to play, out of no where I hear my captain shouting " Gulechha in, Doshi out", and I am like "what!!". And next moment I am on court thinking whats the point of playing in a game which we have already won. I might better not play. But I had to prove a point here. If I play well, I might get a chance in the finals. And more than that I was playing my first competitive basketball game. I get two chances to score which I miss to score from. The game ends in with my team winning by 10 points. Post match hand shakes takes place, and people are like "Congrats, well played" patting on my back. I was on cloud seven that day.

The next day,1st march is the best sporting day of my life. We are in the finals against a team which plays hard basketball. Man-to-man, strategic game, with lots of elbows and wrists flying all over the place. This was one tough team to beat. Unlike the last game this time the support was doubled. Alomst the entire batch comes down to watch the match. I do not figure in the starting 5, and I am sure I would not get a chance to play unless we leading by huge margin during latter part of game, the chances of which looked weak. In the first quater we are 8-0 down, with the other team taking shots after shots at the basket and we virtually not made a single attempt on ours. Their defense was absoulte in place and their offense some how worked. I realised this was end of competitive basketball for me atleast for this year. To make up for the score my team started playing hard and committed far too many fouls especially from the star player. Another foul from him would have resulted in extra free throws each time. With a minute left to first quater I was substituted in for him. We saw the rest of the quater safely. My initial thinking was that I was in so that the other player can take some rest and will soon come back in to replace me at start of second quater. But it was a day of unthinkable, I started the second quater and played the entire quater. I was super excited and wanted to prove a point. I wanted to display my skills and score atleast one basket. Wanted to give back something to my captain who had lot of trust and faith in me. But things never go the way you plan. I did not get a single chance to score. I commit two back court violations and one carry violation. I commit a foul on opponent player.I do not collect the rebounds properly. But I made sure that that the man I am defending does not score. At the end of quater From 8-0 down we go up 9-8, with me providing assists in one of the shots. I do not play any further part in the game. We win by a margin of 5 points(it is much closer than it looks). Almost everyone congrulates me, there is lot of joy, shouting, cheering all over the place. More than that I realise my dream of playing basketball. Thank you Vignesh,Tuhin. Without you guys it would have never been possible.

Valentine's Day

February 14th Valentines day, Like the past 22 years even this year I was single on Valentines day. I have no regrets what to so ever about it. But this year my friends made it special for me.

There was lot of apprehension about V-day celebration in Manipal because of the Moral policing activities in Mangalore and Karnataka overall. They had claimed to move in city with priests and marry any couple they find in park, pub, streets, etc. My friends were wondering if they should go out that day with their guy/girl and risk getting married. LOL.

This theme I have classes even on saturdays, and as it would be I spent the first half of day in college attending lectures. Had dinner at college mess and Watched "how I met ur mother-Season 3, episode 16 to half of episode 20". Why would someone watch only half of season finale of HIMUM? Well as it was to be my friends were waiting down at hostel for me. I forgot we had planned to go out for dinner. But it was only 6.30PM!!! As it was to be they had planned something more than dinner.

My partners in crime today and as always were Anshul(I call him Zorro), Jai Todi ( All call him Jodi) and Neha. Off late we four have hit off well and hang out a lot, especially at COX and MOX which we call "CNM" and call ourseleves CNM Gang.

In no time I am ready and down meeting them. We first move to China Valley, the only place which serves HOOKAH at Manipal. This is first time we I have had hookah in Manipal. Though the flavour was not very strong, Hookah rocks any given day. We spent the next one and half hour smoking hookah and eating snacks. When we four are together there are some secrets revealed and some stories shared. And today was no unusual. Of course we had planned to take Jodi's trip today. But as always Jodi was very calm and composed, and his stories very lame.
Neha and me had more fun pulling Zorro's leg, teasing him about his latest crush in college.

As expected the CNM was jam packed, with people standing on road and on pavement on opposite side. Seemed like the best people of Manipal had come down to CNM, and we only added to the cause. We four did our ritual work at CNM, in CNM style. We wanted to dedicate a song to CNM Gang, and my suggestion was sealed- Yaaron dosti, badi hi haasen hai (RockFord).
We sang out loud, with Zorro literally dancing. Truth or Dare game bought out more secrets. Was surprised to know that one amongst us was committed and another was single while I thought the other way around.

As we have been doing more often recently, we parceled food at Parata point and went back to college. On the way back stopped at Peacock point. Spend around 15 minutes there chatting with seniors and admiring the view.
We had food at "TAPMI Greens", sharing food of 4 amongst 10 others. We never say no to anyone, in fact it is fun sharing and eating. Had a walk after food and I was back in hostel soon after.

This day was special and will fall short of words describing it. Or should I say some things cannot be explained in words. Yet another glorious day in Life at TAPMI.

UnLuckybychance

What a way to celebrate the end of exams. Nutin can beat watching "Luckbychance". I dunno whose crap idea was to travel 10 odd Kms after exams to watch this movie. I had given 7 papers in 4 days before this movie. This explains how tired, exhausted and stressed out i was. I had plans to sleep for the rest of day( to make up for derprived sleep during the week ) or go to beach with my pals. But it was not to be. Some 30-40 from my college went to the movie. Shows hows desperatly we needed a break from books and how happy we were to finish another theme at college

I became a fan of Farhan Akthar after his debut movie "Rock on". Absolutly love his voice and delivery. Guy has a great attitude and style. Of course his singing in "rock on" did rock.
The movie also had Konkana Sen, another favourite, I like her off beat roles.
And lot of expectations were associated with Zoha, the director.

But the movie turned out to be a total thumbs down. The start did look promising, but it just fadded out. They lost the plot totally. One of Rishi Kapoors and juhi Chawlas worst performances. Screenplay and direction was sad. Farhan and Konkana were good, more could have been got out of them..

Anyways I would rather suggest you to sit at home and watch some TV soap than "LuckByChance"

Exams and vacation.

Well my second post within the first month. I am doing good here.

I had not written anything about me in the first blog, so here I go.
My name Ankit R Gulechha ( Naam toh sunna hoga :-p ). My sunshine being Aries, which makes me creative, passionate, adventurous, romantic, bla bla.. Currently doing my post graduation in Business Administration (ie; MBA) from T.A.Pai Management Institute, Manipal. First time hosteling here during my course. Away from home, missing the love, affection and moms food back home.

Since my last blog a lot has happened. I had Alumni meet in college, Exams and a short vacation.
Starting in reverse order. The one week vacation split into two events- outbound program from college and holiday at home. The two day outbound included trekking and other activites through which managerial learning and skills are imparted. Communication, interpersonal skills, working in team, adjusting to change, etc. The two day event was totally fun filled and quite a learning. Was at home for 5 days. This was my first break from the college rigour and tight schedule in 3 months. To be honest was feeling very jobless initially. Not much to do apart from watch movies and TV series on my laptop. Friends were busy at office during the weekdays. Wat really kept me busy was my mothers dentist visit where I had to accompany her. Things got better on friday evening and the weekend was simply awesome. Hanged out at places where we normally do, went bowling, watching cricket at friends place, late nights..
But one event during this trip has changed the way I look at relationships now. I will never forget the moment when my friend revealed a secret which he/she has kept for 4 long years. Please dont ask what.
The trip back to Manipal from bangalore was brilliant.was made to change bus midway at 4.00Am and again at 7.00Am. Sleeping in the bus passage with people kicking us around, stinking socks and shoes, uukkkkk.. But in the company of Anshul and Arghya it was total fun and masti.

Now the exams. Lets not talk bout it, they came they went. End of story.
Alumni meet was a good learning experience. The idea that management education is not bout books and grades but about managing yourself and ppl around you and keeping yourself updated with the lastest in every aspect of life was over emphasised again and again. And that is one reason why I no more bother about my grades. Met alumni from TAPMI's first batch. The knowledge sharing was so enriching. Was lost in thoughts like what I would be doing when i come back here after two years. Alumni meet is one of the most awaited events at any B-schools. It is the first level of interaction wth the industry with the freedom to be very casual with them as they are from same college.

I had started writing this post to emphasise on fact that I really did not have much time for my second blog. Glad I did it asap.

My first blog, dedicated to Karthik Sulibhavi

Wanting to blog for a long time, never been able to find time out of my so called busy schedule. Would spend hours scanning peoples profile, pics and videos on orkut and facebook, but could not find time to blog.

But the scanning of profiles on orkut, turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Was going through my College friend "Karthik Sulibhavi" profile on orkut and noticed a update on it. It was the link to his blogs. Wondered what Technical and Hi fundu stuff he would have written, and to my surprise it was his day to day experiences written in simple words. Sharing his views on a variety of topics which I could so easily relate to.

And that was the moment that changed my life, everything turned upside down, I realised where I would get data to copy from for my blogs( lol ). Thanks Karthik.

As my new years resolution (not to late yet), I m going to write regularly and write original stuff.
And unlike all my resolutions this one is here to stay.

Anyways Happy blogging Ankit. Congrats. Thanks again to all my wellwishers.
